Um, not to be picky or anything, but does “Fighting Burrow Owl” flirt with contradiction? Burrowing animals usually develop such skill to avoid fighting. Just a first impression. It goes without sayin’ my viewpoint on birds is a bit parochial.
It absolutely flirts with contradiction, and I for one wish they’d play that aspect up. But no, the university wants the mascot to be as tough as possible, so we have fighting burrow owls.
To give you an idea of where I’m coming from, my favorite mascot of all time is the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slug.
